As per a recent Plumb Club survey, 79% of respondents stated that they knew lab-made diamonds; conversely, 41% of them did not know how these differed from mined diamonds. In the survey, up to 83%of respondents stated that they had thought about purchasing jewelry with lab-made diamonds, whereas 65% stated that they would contemplate buying lab diamond rings.
As for several shoppers, the cost is the determinant in their shift to lab diamond jewelry. People who seek a bigger centerpiece stone for their engagement rings without the money for a mined diamond may seek an artificial stone for the size and look they want within a budget. For other shoppers, choosing lab-grown diamond jewelry means doing responsible shopping. Some critics dispute the sustainability level when comparing natural diamonds to their lab-made counterparts, but there is no denying an artificial stone’s traceability.
A poll on the magazine JCK’s Instagram account demonstrated that almost every respondent does not carry artificial diamonds in their collection or store. When asked about the reason for the same, a follower responded that they believed that the stones do not have real worth.
For a word, worth is subjective. Some people shop for pieces of jewelry as investments, but others do so based on their emotions. Emotional worth possibly carries greater weight, especially for people who seek their dream jewelry piece when on a budget.
Will lab diamonds surpass the demand for and the popularity of mined stones? It is unlikely to happen in the near future, but lab diamonds are here to stay. Offering lab diamonds will not compromise the beliefs of a retailer and does not mean that they have chosen sides. It will only cater to a greater number of customers, aiding them in feeling heard, seen, and dealt with. When their rings appear this good, shoppers who wish to have those will undoubtedly be pleased.
